Israelis singing together: we’re coming with our guns to kill those Amaleks, they have no water and electricity, those rats will not survive when we leave our homes to go to war, we want all those Blacks and Arabs dead (electric solo, disco lights)
Palestinians singing together: oh my homeland how you suffer, one day the bloodshed on your soil will stop, one day we will return to our home village, Palestine will be free again (sitting together in a space lit by phone lights)
#The difference between what is being sung by the Zionist and anti-Zionist communities is so stark#even the dammi falastini and veve palestina backgrounds on videos is so different to lyrics and plain racist yelling going around#like idk if the literal actions over the course of over 70 years wasn’t enough maybe this helps people differentiate#not that there’s anything wrong with chants encouraging violence or like war songs but.#it’s worth thinking about what the songs are *saying*#what the overall message in them are#because I’m seeing a lot of ‘killing civilians is what we do!’ in more or less literally those words#as if that is motivating. and then the brushing over the racism that can’t possibly be plain cultural linguistic misunderstandings.#Palestine#I don’t know how blatant israel will have to be before some people realize they’re falling for lies#but the more than cartoonishly shameful comparison of the Palestinian and Israeli perspective seems to help there#even the Palestinian resistance songs are like. we will get rid of the oppressors and plant olive trees#with like explosion footage playing#idk#something about praying for survival and singing about history surrounded by rubble and little else

i love shen jiu BECAUSE of the child abuse he does. get on my level 💪
#svsss#shen jiu#i dont gloss over my fave character's flaws i accept them#in a more nuanced and less funny post i could talk abt how hes just a great villain and is written v well imo#from what little we really even see of him. i like how mxtx makes me feel a lot of sympathy for him#and how he as a sort of looming figure over the narrative contributes to the overall message and themes of scum villain#ah but this isnt a nuanced and less funny post and is instead a joke

Something I think ought to be more readily-available and encouraged is simply... taking parental classes. I wish it were more common for people to realize just how hard - and important - parenting is, and indeed, that we all could use help with taking care of young folk. It's really alarming that popular opinion is still that parental classes are only for the "fuck-up" parents, or the parents who utterly failed. It should be seen as a good thing to take parental classes - especially on your own volition. It should be seen as imperative for one to take them, it should be a free, accurate, and scheduled occurrence so that people of any background are able to attend.
#politics#parenting#i might have posted something like this before but who knows. certainly not me (the blogger)#of course some cities and states in the USA for instance will have programs like this but it's not.. across the board from what i understand#my city has a few free parenting classes for really any parent and i am really happy to hear that#my dad talks about the classes he took and most of them are geared toward fathers (the classes he takes). i think that's a great thing#i wish that was more common when i was a kid. when i'm older you bet i'm taking advantage of parenting classes <3#even if i have no children i won't be child-free unless i live in isolation. i want to treat them well#i would be devastated if a kid were to have a horrible experience around me because i was an asshole or i was uncompassionate or ignorant#the overall message i got as a kid was that parenting classes were a punishment for the fuck-up parents and THAT is fucked up to me#the idea that parenting is simultaneously natural AND that you're Always Correct and Never Wrong is dangerous at best#like i bet my abuser thought they were a good adult to me and that i was just a fucked-up *child*

The fallout show isn’t NOT anticapitalist, but it’s anticapitalist in that way that a lot of recent media goes for, where it makes vague gestures towards ideas like ‘There Is Wealth Inequality, Perhaps’, or ‘maybe a few dozen people having more money than god Isn’t A Good Thing, Actually’. But ultimately it kinda just tiptoes around commenting on anything systemic by offloading the blame onto its shadowy cabal of the ultra-rich, and turning the wastelander underclass into a constant running joke that the audience is expected to laugh along at. Which like. Fine. That’s honestly more than I was expecting I guess. But bad-appling fallout feels like missing the point extra hard, given how much it absolves the US of its role in everything, up to and including literal nuclear armageddon
#fallout#fallout prime#fallout prime critical#and that’s not even touching on the weird tonal dissonance?#like. you can’t make any meaningful commentary about classism in your setting if you’re gonna turn right and around and start jeering#‘look at these stupid ignorant fucks. Isn’t it funny how stupid and ugly and mean they all are?’#‘It’s probably because they’re so poor and dirty and starving’#‘And it’s fine when the protagonist of the moment guns them down cause they’re just crazy raiders!’#you understand why those two messages can’t coexist comfortably right?#anyways I finished the fallout show and honestly? my many many may complaints aside? it wasn’t awful#it very much didnt know what it wanted to be or say#but it was fun enough#I felt appropriately pandered to in parts#and it was clearly very lovingly crafted by the people who made it#overall it would have served much better as a non-canon addition to the franchise#but at the end of the day bethesda can knock over all the sandcastles it likes#doesn’t mean I’m gonna start taking their canon seriously#also moldaver can **** me **** in the ***** ******** *** *****#who said that

Religiously i think about one of my twitter mutuals pointing out how aoki's design is subtly asymmetrical while ichiban is more symmetrical
when i think of it, masato's design is fairly symmetrical as well isnt it.....
#snap chats#please no one look at me i shouldve gotten my drink two hours ago#what does it mean .....#i swear my mutual had like. galaxy brain when it came to aoki i swear to god in heaven no one got him like they did#they were also the one that did that glass analysis post i shared some months back#moving on tho...#i guess there is the stipulation that because masato's shirt buttons dont match his shirt like ichi's does the buttons at the top mess it u#but aside from that everything else is pretty even: he has a pair of bangs and while his shirt is patterned its not like. grossly so#the pattern doesnt go particularly one way or the other its obviously just a pattern and the colors arent offensively against each other#on the flipside aoki's hair is more obviously swept to one side and leaving the other side bare#not to mention his tie in general. the 'bulb' part and 'tongue' part even go against each other#as if a diagonal striped tie itself wouldnt be askew to his overall look#again these are very small things to notice but im glad theyre small- it makes sense for a politician's to be subtly incongruent#the glasses are super important to aoki's design too but that's covered int eh glass analysis and isnt about symmetry#idk ... maybe im just waffling on about nothing.. either way i love those posts by my mutual#OH i think of this because i am once again thinking of updating how i draw masato#cause i like the blazer and necklace i gave him BECAUSE of that asymmetry#but now i wonder if thatd go against his design ... so i have to ask 'what underlying message is there for masato to be symmetrical'#i guess- even if he is a creep and a weirdo- he's not. evil? idk ... he hasn't gone totally off the deep end compared to aoki#like compared to what he'd go on to do as aoki he's pretty normal as masato#he is just a guy. who DOES have ties to the yakuza but this aint about that LKCJALKREJVA#he doesnt even like them he just uses them for his convenience 😔#idk. ill prob still draw masato the same tbh LMAO if anything ill just crop his blazer but keep it symmetrical#i guess i cant wonder this TOO much when i give him mismatching rings 💀💀 ill just have fun ig fjaelrvekljv#at the end of the day its never that serious ...... i just gotta draw what makes me chortle. esp for a chara three people care about VJLAEK#but i will wonder ..... <- it is not that deep#ima go bye

wish i could be angry without feeling bad
#Obviously it's important to not be too clouded by emotions when communicating that you are upset#As in. Not lashing out#But idk maaan i don't wanna feel like i always have to measure every single word i say to be as little angry as possible#Yesterday during a feedback round for writing where everybody was supposed to only say one positive thing they liked#A friend absolutely tore into my writing saying that the narrative voice was unbearable and pretentious#And it was like. Bestie this is not what i asked for#N i told them that but the anger lingered#So i texted them again n said that it really wasn't okay#When in a group of five everybody says one small thing they liked and one person rants on about how much everything sucked#That leaves a negative feeling. Sorry#And i texted that text to a friend n she said 'well i think you might be a bit too into it they didn't say everything sucked'#And it's like. Ok i could have worded that differently in hindsight but the point still stands!!! And WHY can't i be angry#It was a decent message overall considering i cried about the whole thing

i agree with a lot of music fans and journalists/critics/artists that “lockdown”/“pandemic”/“quarantine” albums usually aren’t great and also don’t do very well, but i do think there is one truly incredible (at least in quality i haven’t looked at numbers and tbh i don’t really care) and maybe not the most obvious exception (well maybe it is obvious but i don’t see this album talked about a lot since like the month it came out and i don’t think i’ve seen it talked about in the conversations about art inspired by covid-19/lockdowns). anyway can we play a little game where you guys guess what album it is (this might help me find more good music or at least music you think i’d like as well as be [hopefully] fun!)
#i would also exclude folklore/evermore and unreal unearth from that statement not just bc i think they’re great but mostly bc i wouldn’t#call them ‘pandemic’ albums#like obviously folklore and evermore were made during that time but only two songs on folklore reference the pandemic/lockdown/isolation and#it’s sort of referenced in the sound in that both of those albums are generally quieter for taylor and that might reflect the actual#emotions of isolation and loneliness but i don’t think the sound necessarily reflects/refers to the actual material conditions of#lockdown or covid-19#rather folklore/evermore contain just a few lyrical and sonic references to the emotions caused by that situation but again. not as many as#there were initially perceived to be#side note i think actually the most ‘lockdown’ song on folklore or evermore is mirrorball#and i think the reason mirrorball works so well is that despite the fact that both the overall concept of the song and the lyrical content#seem to directly reference covid-19 lockdowns and closures#it (mirrorball) is still extremely relatable#and i think what’s absolutely true about the album i’m referring to in the actual text of the post#is that it is at least mostly very relatable for most people (although probably for women in particular)#and actually i would say that the album im talking about has very similar themes and concepts to mirrorball but translates and expands upon#them into the form of an entire album#ok very long side note over. in terms of unreal unearth not being a lockdown album it’s true that andrew has literally said it’s not one#but also there aren’t even any small lyrical sonic or conceptual references to the pandemic like i mentioned there are a few on folklore#and evermore.#i did watch an interview where andrew says there /might/ be one lyrical reference but i can’t find it (message me if you know what he meant)#i would call unreal unearth something that i think andrew is understandably hesitant to refer to it as#and that is a breakup album#and i think the reasons he’s hesitant to call it that is that sometimes when people say a piece of media is about a breakup they use that to#reduce both the emotions and experiences covered in the work and the quality of the work#but i also think that in music specifically breakup albums are often (not always. often) a seminal important and iconic moment in a career#and are in many cases considered by many to be the best or at least the most iconic albums by an artist#examples of that include Rumours and even Red#congrats if you read all these tags you’re a real champ#i have so much to say about this topic and topics related to it sorry!#love ya and please take a guess

Thoughts on Season 2 As Of Eps 1-9
Spoilers for TBB Season 2
So I just saw a video on TikTok that I thought was interesting and I just want to share some of my thoughts on it. The creator said that as of right now, they are struggling to understand what the point on TBB Season 2 is and what the main story thread is supposed to be. And I found this interesting because I have a fairly good idea of what I think the overall message they're trying to show is. But I'm not going to critise the creator because I think I might also have an idea of where the confusion is coming from.
In TBB S2, there seems to be 2 distinct narrative threads running through, which while linking to each other at points, can definitely be seen as two separate storylines. One is how the Batch is trying to find their place in a post-Republic world while looking after a child. The other is the rise of the Empire and the clone rebellion.
And while they definitely tie into each other, I can see why they feel like two separate narratives and that's where I think the confusion over what the show is actually about is coming from.
I'm not going to say that this is a bad thing necessarily. I personally like seeing both stories but I'm not necessarily going to go after people if they personally don't enjoy that. For some people they'd rather have the Batch storyline in one season and the rebellion storyline in another. At the end of the day, it's just an opinion. But I do just want to give my thoughts on why I think this works for me.
Really, I think one of the best ways to understand the season is to look at Hunter and Echo. They each represent one storyline: Hunter wanting to choose a more peaceful life for Omega and Echo wanting to do more to fight against the Empire.
And I think those two really show what this show is touching on: what do the clones do in a post-Republic world?
I think the easiest thing to do is to touch on how each episode ties into the main plot, so I'm going to do that.
Eps 1+2: While feeling like the typical Bad Batch "mission goes wrong" style of episodes, these two set up the two sides of the story. Hunter wants the money so that they can go into hiding while Echo wants the money so that they can fight the Empire and help other people. It's setting up the idea that the clones, while literally being copies of the same person, have different ideas of where they want to go. On top of that, you have Tech beginning to understand more about life outside of war.
Ep 3: You have Crosshair trying to prove that he has a place in the Empire, while Cody believes that the best thing to do is to leave. Cody doesn't want to live the life of a soldier if it means working for the Empire, while Crosshair struggles with the idea of his life being anything other than that.
Ep 4: This episode lets the Batch see that there's more to the world outside of the army. Giving Tech a chance to experience something outside of being a soldier opens up the idea of him realising that maybe he doesn't want to carry on fighting.
Ep 5: A deeper look into what it's like for a child to be living in this world. We have Hunter very clearly trying to come to terms with what the best life for Omega is and how they're going to have to change their lives to accommodate that.
Ep 6: Another look into how the Empire is affecting the galaxy and what the clones' place is in all of that. Omega can't be a child in a world like this, so do the Batch give up their lives as soldiers? Or do they carry on fighting for the greater cause like when they helped the Wookies?
Eps 7+8: You have more and more clones questioning the Empire and having to choose whether or not they are willing to put their lives at risk. While the Batch are willing to help Rex, they don't feel like they can take the big step of fully partaking in the Rebellion. But then you have Echo who doesn't want to give up the fight, who, while not wanting anything bad to happen to his brothers or Omega, doesn't want to say goodbye to his life as a soldier if it means having to stop helping people.
Ep 9: This episode is a deeper look into how the difference in the clones' decisions are affecting them. Did the Batch make the right choice in choosing to work with Cid? Should they have gone with Echo? Or was choosing to protect Omega the right choice? Should they give up the fight? Should they throw themselves further into it? Where do they go from here? What is their place in the galaxy? What is their job?
While the idea of the Batch wanting to live their own lives protecting Omega and the idea of the clones beginning to rise up as a collective and fight back may feel like two different storylines, they are both integral to each other.
This season let's us see what is happening to the clones in a post-Republic galaxy: what their choices are, what their purpose is, what they want their future to be. We're all watching the story of the clones but we're just looking at it from multiple sides.
If people don't connect with the show, then that's fine. I can understand why it may be difficult to understand what this season is trying to say and why some people feel that the episodes seem a little disjointed. But I do think that when you break it down, there is a greater narrative there. You sometimes just need to do a little digging to see it.
#following the batch and following the rebellion may feel like two different stories#but really they have the same message at the heart of them#and that's what the clones are choosing to do with the rise of the empire#i think the latter half of the season may help link up some of the narrative threads more#but overall the message is still there#we're following the clones#this is their story#star wars#the bad batch#the bad batch season 2#the bad batch season 2 spoilers#the bad batch spoilers#tbb spoilers#echo#tech#hunter#wrecker#crosshair#omega#commander cody#captain rex

how did you like The Shining?
It was enjoyable, I liked the set design and I do like when a movie has a pretty fluid original soundtrack rather than prescripted beats. Hard not to remember that Kubrick abused the shit out of Duvall. I can see how people get very obsessive over interpreting this movie. I don't think it sparked that in me but it was like, worth the watch. Tbh I think if I didn't know about the immense hype around it I would be even more meh on it. I was sort of always a bit out of place watching it because, purposefully as far as I could tell, it felt as if everyone was acting around each other, without being an interacting whole, which was an effect that just didn't really play out well for me. If I even rewatch it maybe I'll like it more then but for now I'll put it in "It's always fun to watch a movie with my friends but this was solidly mid to me."
#asks#it files into the type of media where an overall simple story is made purposefully vague and more ambiguous and then lots of#specific details are peppered around#as to inspire people to think way harder about it even though#it kind of obviously seems purposefully lacking#which like. i guess some people enjoy that#but I personally prefer movies and books that just unilaterally commit to what they're doing#like it's not complexity that i shy away from at all#but nothing feels more limpdick to me than something that kneecaps its own message to provide a larger avenue for artiste interpretation#all the supposed interpretations of the shining are limited imo by the fact that none of them seem to be baked in as the dedicated thought#i'm all for niche interpretations#and i dont think author intent is The One True Interpretation#but I think a story should be consistent enough that interpretations can be very strong even if they werent the authors intent#or the inconsistencies should be part of the interpretation#which does seem to happen with the shining dgmw#idk#it feels like a very 'why are the curtains blue' movie. and i actually really love symbol interpretation and whatnot like that!!#i just like. when it is more cohesive. i hate when it feels like its being purposefully waylaid#im sure some shining fans may find this take highly degenerate but thats their problem#if youre going to do an abstract interprative piece#the main meat should still stand strongly on its own#and it just didnt feel like the shining's did for me

Acknowledging the literary value of a work and the message behind it doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it. Catch-22 is a great commentary on war and the both absurd yet bitterly human nature of it while also commenting on both the horrendously negative and transcendently positive capabilities of humanity. I still think it’s boring as shit tho.
#i adore absurdism#i hate war novels#catch-22 managed to fall in the middle of the field for me at just ‘boring’#it’s not even the bleakness of war novels that i dislike#i’m just fine with bleak and depressing shit#hell i MYSELF have some bleak and depressing story ideas i still love#and would like to realize in some form or fashion one day#i think it’s just how many of them there are#because so many of these ‘great works of the twentieth century’ are by war veterans#and yes!!! work on your trauma besties!!! im all here for it!!!#but being forced to read what felt like 20000 of them in school#while unknowingly fighting adhd the whole way#i just cant stand them anymore like nope that is a Bad Subject and i will throw the book if you bring it near me#like forcing myself to try and focus on them to the point of literal pain from the strain of it#for multiple YEARS#i cant deal with them anymore#catch-22 was a frustrating case because i saw the absurdism and delighted in it#but the overall setting was so hard to drag myself through it balanced out to an end result of ‘boring as shit’#i know in our discussion on the book I definitely came off like i didnt get it#no i get what it’s saying and i approve of the message#im STILL bored as shit tho besties#I graduated high school six yeara ago idk why im thinking about this rn#but yeah tl;dr i can absolutely get the idea behind ‘classics’ and appreciate and approve of the value in them#while ALSO never wanting to go near them ever again because im going to cry from boredom#i can appreciate WHAT youre saying without enjoying HOW youre saying it#these things are not mutually exclusive

Since I just checked my ask box for the first time in a hot minute:
Just a note that tumblr doesn't tell me when I have new asks or messages and I rarely check my notifications. Helpful corrections of misinformation/any messages in good faith are appreciated (though it's possible I won't see them until weeks later, sorry), but if something I reblog angers you enough you feel the need to get hostile in my askbox on anon, I reccomend the unfollow button.
I'm also not comfortable posting asks asking for any sort of donations/directing people to your blog for donation purposes, sorry :// I just don't have time to vet asks like that
#feel like I've had more hostile asks than usual in the last year or so#(with the usual number being none and the recent number being more than none)#I'm not sure if it's like (1) person who hatefollowed and now just wants to be nitpicky about everything#or if the culture of the site changed when i wasn't paying attention and people are back to being hostile#my theory is that the fall of twitter means twitter users are coming back to tumblr and bringing their hostility with them#also i can't believe i have to say this AGAIN#but while what i reblog is generally in line with what i believe...#sometimes i reblog stuff bc it's interesting and makes points i haven't heard before#or i like the overall message even tho there's a few pieces I'm iffy about#or it's not how I'd say it or i feel like it's lacking in some nuance but still think the point is worth making#if you see a really consistent take on my blog with consistent framing then yeah safe to assume it's probably reflective of how i feel#but if you have problems with the phrasing or framing of a specific post maybe take that up with the OP??#i can find someone's speech worthy of dissemination without agreeing with every word#I'm not going to take responsibility for other ppl's phrasing esp if it's just the phrasing or framing in one post and not a theme 4 my blog#sometimes i just think things are an interesting conversation or worthy of talking abt even if not everyone is saying things 100% correctly#feel free to come for me for things i actually write. but I'm not gonna take responsibility for other people's phrasing#(AGAIN with the understanding that like. if I were constantly reblogging posts with slurs or something that would be different)#this just in humans are complex and do not agree 1000% with every post they've ever shared online#pls hold me accountable for things i actually say...#a good example of a VALID critique was when i was following a secret terf and i was accidentally reblogging things with terf OPs semi-often#there was concern i was a terf (i am not... just bad at spotting terf dogwhistles) bc there were a few of these like...#not explicitly terfy but like popular with terf posts on my blog#so thanks again to whoever let me know so i could hunt down the secret terf i was following and unfollow#and even tho it's not true that I'm a terf it was a valid concern bc of the consistency#if u think the phrasing or framing in (1) singular post i reblogged is sooooo horrible... pls take it up with the OP#again with obvious exceptions of like. hate speech. slurs. actual alt right talking points. content in the post that is directly harmful#but anons in my inbox have been Big Mad abt like. one line in one post. or one bad piece of framing#or one not quite nuanced enough take. or one framing where not every person in the world was considered#so pls take that shit up with the person who actually wrote the post and stop acting like i personally came to your house#and yelled the words of whatever post at your grandma and then was mean to your dog
